Community Participation

Community participation is at the heart of the Ubuntu philosophy. We support you to engage in meaningful social, recreational, and community activities that build connections, develop skills, and enrich your life.

Why Community Participation Matters

Research consistently demonstrates that meaningful community engagement leads to improved mental health, stronger social networks, greater life satisfaction, and enhanced physical wellbeing. For NDIS participants, community participation is not just a funded support — it is a pathway to a richer, more connected life. At Ubuntu Support Services, we believe that the Ubuntu philosophy of interconnectedness comes alive through community participation. When you are part of a community, you are not just receiving — you are contributing, sharing, and growing alongside others.

Our Community Participation Programs

We offer both group-based and individual community participation supports. Our group programs include community gardening, art and creative workshops, cooking classes, fitness and wellbeing groups, social outings, and volunteering opportunities. For individual support, our workers accompany you to activities of your choice — whether that is joining a local sports club, attending a community event, visiting a library, or exploring a new hobby. We also support you to build the skills and confidence to participate independently over time.

NDIS Funding for Community Participation

Community participation is funded under Core Supports — Assistance with Social and Community Participation (Support Category 4) in your NDIS plan. Group-based activities may also be funded under Capacity Building — Increased Social and Community Participation. Our team can help you understand which funding categories apply and how to make the most of your plan to achieve your social and community goals.
